A free and experimental sandbox character game
Melon Playground is a very original creativity app that is both fun and very weird. Using 2D pixel art and their in-game physics, you control one or more characters. There is no goal to the game, but you can create a short video if you wish.
Imagine if you had Totally Accurate Battlegrounds physics and a slightly more 2.5D version of Super Meat Boy’s graphics. Then, mix it with an animating tool to create something vaguely similar to this game. Test out different weapons and tools on and with your characters.
Very popular for a weird reason
There are times when indie games become insanely popular despite not looking so great. This is true of Vampire Survivor, Minecraft, Undertale, as well as Melon Playground. It offers a variety of free-ranging sandbox fun by simply allowing you to play around with the tools at hand.
The mobile and PC version
There is a PC version of this game, but it is not very popular. The real version is for mobile devices. Pick up characters, shoot them with guns, throw them around, heal them, inject them with acid, and so forth. They bleed the color of their fruit, which is red in the case of Melons.
A creativity tool with its own mod maker
There is a mod-making tool within this mobile physics game because this game is built around creativity. It isn't very sophisticated, but the amount of freedom it gives you to play around with is staggering.
Generally unsophisticated
Since there is no story or point to the game, there is very little to complain about except that the game lacks sophistication. Even the sound effects use repetitions of the same noise with no variety, and the physics do not accommodate acceleration very well. With more work, this game could be even more popular than it already is today.
